A practical privacy review for church announcements, livestream clips, and social posts before identifiable details are shared.
Notice what a viewer could identify
Before sharing an announcement, photo, or clip, review the whole scene and its context. Names, voices, signs, screens, schedules, and nearby details may reveal more than the caption alone.
- Who can be recognized or heard, including people in the background?
- Could a sign, screen, document, location, or event detail identify someone or reveal private context?
- Does the caption add details that change how the image or story could be understood?
Follow your organization’s permission process
Use the permission or consent process that applies to your organization and the way you plan to share the material. Take extra care when minors appear or when a story involves sensitive personal context.
If permission is unclear, pause and check your organization’s own policy or ask its designated leader before publishing. Do not assume one process applies to every ministry or situation.
Limit details and intended audience
Share only the details needed for the ministry purpose. Consider whether cropping, editing a caption, or choosing a smaller audience would make the post more appropriate for its intended readers.
Decide who handles follow-up
Before publishing, name the role that will receive correction or removal requests and can update the post. Make sure that person knows where the material is shared so the organization can follow its own process if a change is requested.
